About Salmon River

The Salmon River, known as the River of No Return, is Idaho's most famous waterway, flowing 425 miles through some of the most rugged wilderness in the lower 48 states. The river supports runs of wild steelhead and Chinook salmon that travel 900 miles from the Pacific.

Steelhead fishing from October through April draws dedicated anglers to brave cold conditions for these powerful ocean-run trout. Summer Chinook salmon runs provide exciting fishing in the upper river near Stanley. Resident cutthroat and rainbow trout offer year-round fishing. Boat launches at key access points allow drift boat trips through spectacular canyon scenery.
