Liberty Reservoir is a 3,100-acre impoundment straddling the Baltimore and Carroll county line, serving as a primary drinking water supply for the Baltimore metropolitan area. Despite its role as a public water source — which imposes certain boating restrictions including no gasoline motors — Liberty Reservoir supports one of the finest freshwater fisheries in central Maryland. The lake's deep, clear waters reach 135 feet and harbor an impressive diversity of game fish that draws dedicated anglers from across the region.

Liberty Reservoir is perhaps best known for its trophy tiger musky program, one of only a few such fisheries in the state. These aggressive hybrid predators grow to impressive sizes in the reservoir's fertile waters, with fish exceeding 40 inches caught each season. Walleye provide another marquee fishery, with spring trolling and jigging producing consistent catches along the main channel and deeper points. Largemouth and smallmouth bass thrive in the reservoir's varied structure, from flooded timber and brush piles to rocky bluffs and gravel transitions. Crappie and yellow perch round out the panfish opportunities, especially during spring spawning runs.

Access to Liberty Reservoir is managed by the City of Baltimore, and anglers must obtain a permit and adhere to electric-motor-only regulations.
