About Mullett Lake
Mullett Lake is a deep, clear inland lake covering over 16,600 acres in Cheboygan County, making it Michigan's fourth-largest inland lake. With a maximum depth of 148 feet, the lake supports both warm and coldwater fisheries, including one of the few inland lake trout populations in the northern Lower Peninsula. The lake is part of the historic Inland Waterway, connected to Burt Lake via the Indian River and flowing north to the Cheboygan River and ultimately Lake Huron.
The deep waters of Mullett Lake harbor lake trout that provide excellent fishing for anglers willing to troll the depths. Walleye fishing is productive along the lake's sandy and rocky structure, particularly in spring near the river mouths. Smallmouth bass inhabit the rocky shorelines and shoals, while northern pike ambush prey in the weed beds along the shallower margins. Yellow perch and rock bass round out the fishery with reliable action throughout the season.
Public boat launches are located at Aloha State Park on the lake's eastern shore and at additional access sites around the lake. The small community of Topinabee sits on the western shore, while Cheboygan and Indian River provide full services. The lake's size and depth mean it can handle rough weather, so boaters should monitor conditions and carry appropriate safety gear.
