Native Yellowstone cutthroat trout are the signature species in the upper reaches, with brown and rainbow trout increasingly prevalent downstream. The spring salmonfly hatch on the Yellowstone is one of fly fishing's iconic events, producing explosive surface strikes. Multiple fishing access sites along the river provide wade and float fishing opportunities throughout its course.
