The New Jersey coastline stretches 130 miles along the Atlantic Ocean, providing some of the finest saltwater fishing on the Eastern Seaboard. Inshore waters produce outstanding striped bass and bluefish fishing from spring through fall, while fluke, sea bass, and tautog offer bottom-fishing action over the countless wrecks and reefs that dot the continental shelf. Offshore canyons within 60 to 100 miles of shore provide world-class opportunities for yellowfin and bluefin tuna, mahi-mahi, and other pelagic species.

Public boat ramps and marinas are available along the entire coast, from Sandy Hook in the north to Cape May at the southern tip. Point Pleasant, Belmar, Atlantic City, and Cape May are major charter and party boat ports with fleets targeting everything from fluke to tuna. The state's artificial reef program has created productive fishing structure at numerous locations along the coast, and surf fishing from the famous beaches and jetties is a beloved Garden State tradition.
