Elephant Butte Lake is the largest body of water in New Mexico, stretching over 40 miles through the Rio Grande Valley in the southern part of the state. The reservoir is New Mexico's premier bass fishing destination, producing largemouth bass over 10 pounds and hosting numerous tournament circuits throughout the year. Striped bass and white bass provide exciting open-water action, while walleye inhabit the deeper channels and are best targeted during low-light conditions.

Elephant Butte Lake State Park is one of the most visited parks in New Mexico, offering multiple paved boat ramps, full-service marinas, and extensive camping facilities.
