Lake Gaston is a 20,300-acre reservoir straddling the North Carolina-Virginia border on the Roanoke River, featuring 350 miles of scenic shoreline surrounded by forests and lakefront communities. This Dominion Energy hydroelectric lake is a beloved vacation and retirement destination, offering excellent fishing, boating, and water sports in a peaceful rural setting between the Triangle and Hampton Roads metro areas.

The lake supports a diverse and productive fishery headlined by largemouth bass, striped bass, and crappie. Largemouth bass fishing is excellent around the lake's abundant dock structures, rocky points, and submerged timber, with fish over 10 pounds caught each year. Striped bass provide exciting open-water action, especially in the main channel during cooler months. Crappie fishing is a major draw during the spring spawn, with anglers targeting fish around brush piles and standing timber in the creek arms.

Lake Gaston is fed by Kerr Lake upstream and releases water to Lake Roanoke Rapids downstream.
