About Lake Martin

Lake Martin is a stunning 39,000-acre reservoir in east-central Alabama, featuring 750 miles of heavily wooded shoreline and remarkably clear water. Built in 1926 by Alabama Power, the lake was once the largest man-made body of water in the world. Its deep, clean water and scenic beauty have made it one of Alabama's most popular destinations for both fishing and recreation.

The lake supports an excellent multi-species fishery with strong populations of largemouth and spotted bass. Striped bass provide exciting open-water action, especially during summer when they school over deep humps and points. Spring crappie fishing in the lake's many creek channels and around submerged timber is consistently productive.

Alexander City and Dadeville anchor the lake's commercial areas with full-service marinas, restaurants, and lodging. The lake's proximity to Auburn and Montgomery makes it a popular weekend destination. Wind Creek State Park, one of Alabama's largest state parks, offers excellent camping and boat launch facilities.
