Weiss Lake has earned the title "Crappie Capital of the World" for its legendary spring crappie runs that draw anglers from across the nation. This 30,200-acre reservoir on the Coosa River in northeast Alabama features 447 miles of shoreline with extensive shallow flats, standing timber, and creek channels that create ideal crappie habitat. Spring catches of 50 or more crappie per day are not uncommon for experienced anglers.

Beyond its famous crappie fishing, Weiss Lake offers solid largemouth and spotted bass action in its many coves and creek arms. The lake's relatively shallow depth of 38 feet keeps fish accessible throughout the year, and catfish provide excellent bottom-fishing opportunities in the river channel. Striped bass are also present, adding variety to the fishery.

Centre, the Cherokee County seat, sits on the lake's eastern shore with marinas, bait shops, and guide services catering to visiting anglers. Leesburg and Cedar Bluff offer additional ramp access and lodging. The lake's reputation as a crappie paradise makes it a must-visit destination for panfish enthusiasts.
