About Mobile Bay
Mobile Bay is the fourth largest estuary in the United States, where the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta meets the Gulf of Mexico. This vast body of water stretches approximately 31 miles long and 24 miles wide, with 120 miles of shoreline across Mobile and Baldwin Counties. The bay's mix of fresh and saltwater creates a nutrient-rich environment that supports one of the most productive fisheries on the Gulf Coast.
Redfish and speckled trout are the primary targets, found year-round around the bay's oyster reefs, grass flats, and marshy shorelines. Flounder provide excellent gigging and hook-and-line opportunities along sandy bottoms, while sheepshead congregate around pilings and structure. The bay is also famous for its seasonal "jubilees" โ a natural phenomenon where fish and crustaceans crowd the shallow eastern shore, creating a unique fishing and gathering event found nowhere else.
Mobile on the western shore and the communities of Daphne, Fairhope, and Point Clear on the eastern shore provide marinas, charter services, and waterfront dining. The Causeway bridge spanning the bay offers excellent wade fishing access and is a landmark for anglers navigating the bay.
