About Indian Lake
Indian Lake is a 5,800-acre natural lake in Logan County that has been one of western Ohio's most popular fishing and recreation destinations for well over a century. Despite its shallow maximum depth of just 14 feet, the lake's large size and fertile water support impressive fish populations, particularly saugeye and crappie. The communities of Lakeview and Russells Point on its shores give Indian Lake a classic lakeside resort atmosphere.
Saugeye fishing is the main attraction, with the ODNR stocking program maintaining excellent populations. Trolling and casting crankbaits over the broad flats produces consistent catches, and the fish grow quickly in the nutrient-rich water. Crappie and white bass provide additional action, with crappie holding around the docks and brush and white bass roaming the open water in schools during summer.
Indian Lake State Park provides launch ramps and shore fishing access, and numerous private marinas and bait shops ring the lake. The shallow water means the lake can get rough quickly in wind, but it also warms early in spring, making Indian Lake one of the first productive fisheries each year in Ohio.
