About Lake Milton

Lake Milton is a 1,685-acre reservoir in Mahoning and Portage counties, managed as Lake Milton State Park. The lake provides reliable walleye and bass fishing for anglers in the Youngstown and Akron areas. The shallow, weedy basin creates excellent warmwater habitat and supports strong populations of game fish and panfish.

Walleye are the top predator in the lake, stocked periodically and supplemented by natural reproduction. Trolling crankbaits and pulling worm harnesses over the main basin produces consistent catches from spring through fall. Largemouth bass thrive in the extensive weed beds and along the dock-lined shoreline, and crappie fishing is productive around brush and standing timber in the lake's coves.

Lake Milton State Park maintains launch ramps and shore fishing areas, and the small lakeside communities of Lake Milton and Craig Beach offer a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. The lake is popular with sailboats and personal watercraft on summer weekends, so early morning and evening fishing trips tend to be most productive during peak season.
