Flaming Gorge Reservoir straddles the Utah-Wyoming border, with the Utah portion featuring the dramatic flaming red canyon walls that give the reservoir its name. The lake is one of the premier trophy lake trout fisheries in the West, with mackinaw exceeding 30 pounds caught regularly in the deep, cold waters of the canyon section. Kokanee salmon provide exciting light-tackle action and are a key forage species that fuels the growth of the lake's trophy predators.

The Utah side of Flaming Gorge offers excellent boat launch facilities at several marinas, including the popular Cedar Springs Marina near Dutch John. The Green River tailwater below Flaming Gorge Dam is world-renowned for its trophy brown and rainbow trout fishing, creating a unique two-for-one destination. Smallmouth bass have expanded throughout the reservoir and provide outstanding warm-water fishing along the rocky shorelines and points. The Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area surrounding the lake offers camping, hiking, and wildlife viewing in a spectacular high-desert canyon setting.
